Instructional Media Services has equipped classrooms with data projectors. IMS also has loaner laptops and portable data projectors which can be used for teaching in other classrooms. Most classrooms have network connections for the instructor.Some of the Computer Labs also have projectors and instructor workstations or network connections and may be scheduled for classes or tutorials.
Video or audio course materials may be made available to students on our streaming server. Rather than requiring students to download a large file, it may be played directly from our server.
The IMPATICA program, for creation of web pages with audio and video from Powerpoint files, is available at five service locations across campus.
The Learning Content Management System (BLS CE/WebCT) provides a framework for developing course web pages and includes features such as class email, bulletin boards, online quizzes, and grade sheets. Course pages are normally accessible only to students taking the course (automatically updated from registration data).
The Dalhousie virtual classroom is a web-based application known as Live Classroom from the company HorizonWimba. It features an easy-to-learn, real-time, online learning space where you can lecture using Powerpoint slides and web pages as if in a real room and reach people who are unable join you on campus.
Multiple Choice Exams or Tests can be processed easily and quickly using mark sense forms (bubble sheets). Turn around is normally within 2 working days.
RefWorks is a Web-based bibliography and database manager that allows you to create your own personal database by importing references from text files or online databases. You can use these references in writing your papers and to automatically format the paper and the bibliography in seconds.
Turnitin.com is a web based plagiarism prevention system that lets instructors and students quickly check content for originality.
