Dalhousie instructors routinely use instructional technologies to enhance student learning. These technologies enable students and instructors to interact with each other and course content in a variety of ways including:
Members of the ILO Team are available to provide advice, training, assistance, and trouble shooting for any of the numerous instructional technologies available as outlined below.
All Dalhousie instructors are encouraged to contact the ILO Team to either seek advice or simply think out loud about which of the available options may prove both beneficial and efficient as a way to provide online materials for students.
As our Learning Content Management System (LCMS), Dalhousie licenses the Blackboard Learning System Campus Edition Version 6 or BLS for short. It is the core of our suite of institutional applications.
For content development, the following applications are supported and in most cases licensed institutionally (another way of saying you don't need to pay): CourseGenie, Dreamweaver, Impatica, Lectora 2005, StudyMate, Respondus (including the Lock Down Browser), and Turnitin.com.
Our institutional virtual classroom (web casts) is Live Classroom from Wimba Inc. For voice messaging, we have the Wimba Voice Tools including: Voice Board, Voice Direct, Voice Email, Voice Presentation, and Voice Recorder.
For pod casting, we support the Wimba Podcaster.
For more information on these products, please visit our Teaching Applications page.
Regular workshops are scheduled on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The schedule changes from one term to the next as a reflection of user requirements. For a complete listing, please review the Getting Yourself Ready branch of this web site.
